A simple app built with Nuxt.js, Vuetify, and Firestore to track family's daily expenses.
I bought a house in 2014 and needed an extra IDR 50 million in 18 months. Therefore, I had to be discipline in money saving and to perform strict cost control. To motivate me, I wrote a small web app in PHP to accept expenses inputs and store them in a MySQL database. The app would warn me every time my spendings were near or exceeded the daily limit.
After achieving the goal in 2016, I abandoned the app. Then in 2019 I revisited the app, but this time its main job is to record family’s expenses. We just wanted to know our daily and current month expenses in real time and we set no daily limit.
This time I choose Nuxt.js as the Javascript framework and Firestore as the realtime database. I pick Vuetify because I do not want to be hassled by creating my own user interface components from scratch. I host the app in Vercel.
